Decorate to Liberate

Liberation bunting

Get your flags up now for Liberation Day

2020 marks a significant anniversary of Liberation Day. This year we commemorate 75 years of freedom following the end of the German Occupation. And this year, will be like no other.

We are currently facing the greatest restriction on our civil liberties since the Second World War. We are going to have to adapt and change the way we plan on celebrating – but we can still celebrate.

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing lots of ways that you can get involved, including how you will still be able to join in, even if it’s from the comfort of your armchair, with many of the traditional aspects of our special day.

But today, with three weeks to go, we are asking you to bring the celebrations forward. To get your flags out and show solidarity with your neighbours, with your friends, with your family and with your island. There is no better time to celebrate our freedom, and honour those who lived through the dark days of the Occupation, than this.

Guernsey this is your call to arms, to get your flags out now. We can’t wait three weeks. Let’s show solidarity with each other and support for those on the frontline, those who are working tirelessly to keep our Island running and keep us safe, for those who are struggling and for those who may have lost loved ones.

It’s time to start doing what we do best. Showing our pride and our resilience for our beloved Sarnia Cherie.

So please, get your flags out and send us your photos with #DecorateToLiberate

If you don’t have any bunting or flags to put out, we have produced some templates for you to print out on your home printer. Simply add string and hang in your windows. There is also one for children to colour in which, we hope, will keep them entertained for a little while (please ask an adult for help before using scissors to cut these out – and they may want to help with the colouring as well)

These are available in the download box below.
