I operate a building and plumbing supplies company. What should I do?

Hardware stores, builders’ merchants and stores must cease from business as usual trading with immediate effect. From 11th February, lone workers who are not considered essential workers may return to their place of work if:

  • They are the only person present on the premises; and
  • They have no physical contact with colleagues, customers or clients.

You must not open your premises to the public for general trading, but you may be able to fulfil and deliver or dispatch orders received online as long as you can undertake this work without any contact with other individuals, whether colleagues, customers or clients. This work must be undertaken by a lone worker.

If you cannot comply with the above, then you may only provide products by arrangement only to essential workers and to repair and maintenance personnel providing emergency repairs and maintenance. If you do make arrangements to supply essential workers as defined in list A, then you must ensure that you put in place social distancing measures and are strongly advised to wear face coverings when you provide emergency products.
