I operate a business providing goods or services which are not essential – can I continue to operate?

Only retail outlets classed as essential can operate from their premises, if they can adhere to strict guidelines.

From 11th February, lone workers who are not considered essential workers may return to their place of work if:

  • They are the only person present on the premises; and
  • They have no physical contact with colleagues, customers or clients.

You must not open your premises to the public for general trading, but you may be able to fulfil and deliver or dispatch orders received online as long as you can undertake this work without any contact with other individuals, whether colleagues, customers or clients. This work must be undertaken by a lone worker.

If you cannot comply with the above, then work should now be undertaken remotely where possible. You can only go onto your premises in order to ensure they are secure or to carry out essential maintenance or repair work to them.
