Support for Visitor Attraction businesses

This page was last updated on 1 July 2021 at 12.25hrs.

The Visitor Attraction Support Scheme provides business support funding to recognised Visitor Attractions that rely on income from the Visitor Economy for the viability of their business, who have been impacted by the COVID restrictions.

Support has been provided since 16th March 2020 via the Payroll Co-Funding Scheme, that is due to run until September 2021.

The Policy & Resources Committee have now agreed to create the new Visitor Attraction Support Scheme, which will provide support for 12 months, 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022, when it is hoped a meaningful Tourist season will commence.

How to apply

Visitor Attraction businesses can apply to join the Visitor Attraction Support Scheme by emailing including “Visitor Attraction Support” in the subject line.  Alternatively please call 220003. Lines are open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm.

After contacting the Business Support team, businesses that wish to submit a claim for support on this scheme should then complete the online claim form before Friday 30th July. Claimants will be asked to upload a completed profit forecast template for the 12 months to 31st March 2022, as well as their last two available annual accounts. A blank template for completion with a profit forecast is available at the bottom of this page.

Businesses will be asked to agree to the Key Terms and Declarations.

The guidance provided below outlines the support available and the application process.

The Visitor Attraction Support Scheme

The Visitor Attraction Support Scheme has been created to support visitor attractions that fulfil the following criteria:-

  • Operate from bricks and mortar premises which host and attract visitors to

  • Primary income derived from the Visitor economy

  • A business model that cannot be feasibly re-purposed to adapt to the current trading situation due to COVID restrictions.

  • Have material overheads with little income with which to cover

Businesses from the Visitor Economy who have successfully applied for support under the scheme, will be eligible for payments in the form of a fixed monthly grant covering up to 80% of the businesses fixed overheads, excluding borrowing capital repayments and staff wages (“the grant”).

Businesses that operate within the Tourist industry which do not fulfil all of the criteria but are faced with onerous overheads which the business has difficulty in sustaining can be considered for support on a case by case basis.

Businesses supported by the Visitor Attraction Support Scheme will still be eligible to apply for support from the Payroll Co-Funding Scheme.
