Christmas is bound to feel different for many of us this year as we look back at what has been an incredibly challenging, worrying and uncertain rollercoaster of events both in Guernsey and worldwide due to COVID-19. But, at the same time, it’s been a time of strong community spirit, togetherness, pride and resilience. We’re always better together, even when we’ve had to stay apart.
For those living in our ‘Bailiwick Bubble’ we are lucky enough to be in a position where we can spend time with our loved ones in person, exchange gifts and hugs, attend events and enjoy freedoms that others may not have. Christmas really is the time to connect with others, count our blessings and lend a helping hand to those who may need it most.
If you’re looking for others to share Christmas with or if you need support during the festive season then click on our ‘solo support’ link below.
We also have some top tips for those who may be self-isolating during the holidays.
Whether you plan your shopping list in advance or end up quickly grabbing a few things at the last minute, why not head to town, pop to a Christmas Market or get out and about to visit the local business who could really do with your support? One of the key messages that Public Heath is promoting is the importance of handwashing. It takes at least 20 seconds for this simple action to be effective and the ‘science of soap’ proves that it plays a major role in helping to prevent the spread of viruses. Hand sanitiser is also a handy alternative. Click on Jingle Bells: Let’s Stay Well to find out more about the campaign and watch the community videos.
May your Christmas be Merry and Safe!
